May I do the splits for you?
This blog has a split personality.
I hope that doesn’t mean it’s schizophrenic.
Let’s say there will be a certain duality about it. There’ll be a lot of talk about maps and geography. And there’ll be a lot of talk about travel.
Maps and travel are related, you know.
You can pick one, both or neither. If it’s neither, see you later alligator. Thanks for stopping by.
My main goal is to have this blog be both interesting and informative. (Another duality.)
I expect you to help me do that.
Oh, I forgot to mention books. There’ll be some talk about books here, too.
Some maps come in books. There are travel books. And there are, well, lots of other types of books. If you find my mind wandering, you might find me talking about, well, other types of books.
First, let me give you my definition of the word blog. I’m sure you have yours. Please permit me mine:
A blog (THIS blog) is a way for humans with mutual interests to communicate with one another: to offer ideas, suggestions, and comments, and to ask questions, expecting to learn from answers found on the blog.
Web definitions of blog include such phrases as: (1) “publication of personal thoughts, experiences, and web links”; and (2) “an online journal of an individual’s opinions”.
I find it hard to argue with either of those definitions. But I like my definition better. Why? Because it focuses on communication and learning. And because, to make it all work, there has to be mutual interest.
What this blog is NOT: A way to generate income for me. Many bloggers cannot make that statement.
Let’s be honest. We all have to make a living. Sure, from time to time, you may catch me subtly promoting one of my products. (If I change my thinking, I’ll let you know.) But, I can assure you, that’s not my main goal.
Remember . . .
I said you have to help this blog be . . .
Interesting.
Informative.
If you’re still with me, let me say this:
I’m an expert in two very narrow fields related to this blog: (1) creating maps for books, and (2) Florida travel. There are maybe thousands of you “out there” much more expert than I about the myriad of subtopics of both fields.
You help when you . . .
Post your opinions.
Post your questions.
Post your comments.
So . . . what are you waiting for?
Gene
